Haunted By History lyrics: Ghosts of a forgotten Ireland left to die in the cold. The spuds are black in the ground. Corpses left half devoured. Walter's wonder crop cultivated the deaths of the less well off. 1847 the depths of the blight. The Brits left us to die. The wigs gained free trade. The pauper's faith made. We learned a bitter lesson. Trevelyan's inhumane blessing. Widespread starvation, famished people left in the cold like crows. Despair led to hopeless resignation. The will of the reaper on each plantation. Malnutrition left us weakened, colonialism left us defeated. An object of scorn they left us mourn the dying of a generation. It's not that we speak too fast, it's their thinking that's too slow. Racist hatred bread from English entitlement. History swept under the carpet. Every rock was overturned.Eating seaweed led to fever and dysentery. Mounds stand as proof of the dead. This ravaged land from which they fled. Coffin ships overloaded with bad health. To hold a grudge is to harbor hate but what choice are we left to make. I for one pray for those who's lives were sacrificed. This act of genocide. Children of Ireland too young to die. Beat out a rhythm on the bodhrán fast. Leave the flag fly at half mast. Remember your ancestors who died for this land. Death is not the end. Their lives transcend. They live on in our taughts and in our prayers. Haunted by history on our Father's land. Haunted by history in Ireland.
